With a population of 37,393,000 people, Tokyo remains one of the busiest cities in the world. However, with declining birth rates and an aging population, it is predicted that Chinese cities will grow rapidly in the coming years. In fact, Delhi's population is set to surpass Tokyo's, placing it on the top 20 list specifically for populous cities.

Bangalore, India and Lahore, Pakistan are also expected to climb up the ranks due to their urban growth and increasing population numbers. In addition, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are already considered megacities by definition as they have surpassed 10 million residents.

Despite global population growth being driven by net migration rather than births (42 million) minus deaths (12 million), many major cities still face a challenge of caring for their aging citizens due to declining birth rates. For instance, in 2012 there were an estimated 47 million deaths compared to only 42 million births worldwide. The urban giants of today's populous cities must take into account these factors as they continue to expand and accommodate growing communities.

1. Methodology:

To determine the busiest cities in the world, we started with a seed list of capital cities and expanded it to include other metropolitan areas. We then ranked 10 factors that contribute to a city's busyness, including population, average working hours, statutory annual leave established by national data, public holidays country hours, night number, traffic time, entrepreneurs number, universities number, year country minimum paid annual leave number and workplace 14 days.

Our ranking factors were based on available national data due to differences in data availability within different countries. For example, cities like Canberra, Brasilia, Ottowa, Rabat and Ankara had fewer statistically significant data points compared to other cities. To calculate our final score for each city in the study, we used an algorithm that weighed each factor according to its importance to determine how busy a city is overall.

Cities prove to be busy for various reasons; some have high levels of business activity while others are simply more densely populated. Annual leave based on statutory regulations also impacts how busy people are in their daily lives as they have less time off work. Our methodology considered all potential factors contributing to busyness when ranking the busiest cities in the world.
